Privacy Policy

Read alongside: Safeguarding Policy and Terms & Conditions.
1. Introduction
Oh No! Consequences ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you sign in, complete the survey, and play one of our games.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 From Your Survey
When you complete the survey, we collect:
- Profile details: email address, date of birth, gender, and age (calculated from your date of birth).
- Game preferences: room selection, party size, host preferences, difficulty, and other survey responses.
- Selected consequences: the specific forfeits you opt in to, any notes or requests you add, and your consent confirmations.
- Allergies and medical details: any dietary or medical information you voluntarily provide.
2.2 From Your Sign-in Provider
When you sign in via Google or Microsoft, we receive:
- Your display name
- Your email address
- Your provider-assigned unique identifier (used to link your survey responses to your account)
2.3 Session Recording
Please read this section carefully. To protect our staff and provide evidence of how events unfolded — given the physical and often personal nature of our forfeits — we record game sessions. Recordings may include:
- Photography: still photos of your escape (or your consequence), which may be used on our "Wall of Shame" (see the survey).
- Videography: overhead or handheld video of the room during the game, and of the consequence area during the forfeit.
- Audiography: ambient audio from the room and consequence area.
Recordings are required for staff safety. They are used to protect both parties in the event of a dispute. Every effort will be made to keep recordings private to the individual — they are stored in encrypted cloud storage and accessed only by staff directly involved in your game. Recordings are not used in marketing material. A sign is displayed at the entrance to the room, and your survey answers include a confirmation that you have been made aware of this.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Prepare your game room and calibrate difficulty.
- Review your survey answers to confirm feasibility and book your session.
- Retrieve your consequence list on the day of your game.
- Contact you about your booking (via email or the social login you used).
- Improve our rooms, consequences, and survey based on feedback.
- Use recordings for staff protection and dispute resolution.
4. How We Store Your Data
All your data is stored in encrypted cloud storage, accessible only by staff with a login. This includes:
- Survey responses — stored as a single encrypted document, keyed to your social login.
- Session recordings — photos, videos, and audio from your game and consequence.
- Booking information — your name, email, and any special instructions.
Encryption is applied both at rest (using industry-standard AES-256) and in transit (using TLS 1.2+). Your data is stored for up to 2 years after your most recent game, unless you request deletion earlier (see section 6). Session recordings are retained for 6 months by default.
4.1 Wall of Shame
The "Wall of Shame" is a physical display located in our building. It is only visible to people who enter the building — it is not a digital gallery or a social media feed. Photos are displayed in physical frames, and can be seen by:
- Other players and spectators.
- Staff.
- Anyone else who walks through our building.
Photos are not "sold" or "shared" — they are simply displayed in our building. If you want your photo removed from the Wall of Shame, email privacy@ohnoc.com and we'll take it down within 48 hours.
5. Who Sees Your Data
Your survey answers and session recordings are primarily seen by:
- Game staff (hosts, runners, and the ringmaster) — to prepare and run your game.
- The survey review team — one human reads every survey before sending booking info.
- Yourself — you can access your own answers via the "My Consequence" page.
We do not sell your survey data. Your Wall of Shame photo is a physical display visible only to people who enter the building (see section 4.1).
6. Your Rights
You can:
- Change your answers at any time before your game by visiting the survey page.
- Request access to the data we hold about you (your survey responses and any session recordings).
- Request deletion — we'll delete your survey data and any associated session recordings (subject to staff confirming the data is no longer needed for dispute resolution).
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@ohnoc.com.
7. Cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in (a single authentication cookie, valid for 14 days). We also use a small analytics cookie (onoc_session) to track how you navigate the site. Both are first-party cookies and expire after 14 days of inactivity.
8. Third-Party Services
Your sign-in data passes through Google or Microsoft (whichever provider you choose). Their respective privacy policies apply to how those providers process your data during the sign-in flow. We do not control what Google or Microsoft do with your data, but we only request the minimum fields needed for sign-in (name, email, and unique identifier).
9. Children's Data
Our games are 18+ only. We do not expect to collect data from children (under-18s) who are not playing (though we do expect to collect data from parents or partners who are playing). If you believe we have collected a child's data by accident, contact privacy@ohnoc.com.
10. Session Cancellation (Safeguarding)
Given the nature of our forfeits, we reserve the right to cancel a session without refund if we detect that a player is under any form of duress to take part, or does not actually want to play. This includes (but is not limited to):
- Being forced by a partner or friend to play against their will.
- Being blackmailed or coerced into playing.
- Showing clear signs of anxiety or doubt during the one-to-one consent check.
This right is used sparingly, but when it is used, we reserve the right to cancel the entire session (both players) without refund. See our Safeguarding Policy for full details.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page tells you when it was last changed. Significant changes will be communicated via email or the site homepage.
